DiffEngineX is a desktop software application for Microsoft Windows that finds the differences between the formulae, constants, defined Excel names and cell comments contained in either two Excel workbooks (xls, xlsx, xlsm or xlsb files) or selected worksheets. It is a fast and scalable spreadsheet compare tool. It is one of the few workbook comparison utilities which can also compare the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macros embedded in your spreadsheets. Its VBA difference reports are generated as HTML files and best viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer or Firefox.
It generates a cell-by-cell difference report in a new workbook and color highlights different cells in copies automatically made from your workbooks.
As Excel workbooks get altered over time new rows and columns can be inserted between existing ones. DiffEngineX can align both similar rows and columns in the sheets before the process of comparison is carried out. It has many powerful features such as the ability to hide matching rows, group like changes to adjacent cells and highlight differences at the character level. It can be used from its user interface or programmatically using command-line arguments. This allows it to be used from source and version control systems.
DiffEngineX is the only spreadsheet compare tool available that has all the features described below.
DiffEngineX was the first tool in its category that was fast, reliable and scalable.
DiffEngineX has many uses. It can be used to compare databases and comma separated value (CSV) files once they have been imported into Excel. It can also be used for what-if analysis. Simply create a copy of your Excel workbook, change the values of various inputs and compare it with the original. The affected calculations will be revealed. Note that the option to compare formulae using Their Calculated Values must be turned on first.
