DiffEngineX generates a difference report in a new workbook and color highlights different cells in automatically made copies of your worksheets.
As Excel worksheets get modified over time new rows and columns can be inserted in between existing rows and columns. This can confuse a straightforward difference analysis where identical cells are only recognized as such if they have the same row and column numbers in both of the sheets being compared. DiffEngineX can align similar rows and columns between the worksheets being compared by the insertion of blank rows and columns.
Conventional reports listing each cell difference are difficult to understand given the lack of context. This is why there is an option to automatically create copies of the workbooks being compared and then modify them such that the differences are color highlighted. Different colors are used to flag modifications, additions and deletions. On the Extras dialog an option exists to hide matching rows. This is a powerful way to just see the differences buried in large Excel files.
DiffEngineX is a classic piece of software. It set the standard for Excel compare utilities. Many years ago when most Excel compare tools took 10 minutes to compare a couple of Excel files, DiffEngineX could do it within 30 seconds.
